In the summer of 2013 I ventured across the U.S. Pacific Northwest for 2 months to conduct field research with citizen scientists in the COASST (Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team) project as a part of my dissertation research in the geography department at the University of SC. This blog chronicles my travel along the coasts of 3 states (WA, OR, CA) and invites you to follow along the stories of the places I visited, the people I met, and the beautiful world around me.

Focused Group
In just the first few days that I've been meeting COASST volunteers, it is quite clear that this is a focused group of individuals. They are determined and driven, and committed to rigorous monitoring. Staring this week, COASSTers in select areas will have the opportunity to focus in a slightly different way, by attending one of the Research Overview and Focus Group events I'll be hosting throughout my travel along the coast. These meetings are designed to provide a brief overview of my research with the program and to allow COASSTers to interact and share stories through guided conversation. To all you COASSTers out there, I hope you will check out the event schedule and consider joining us if able!
